An AEW star has issued a challenge to the NJPW locker room for a championship match at Forbidden Door 2025 on August 24.
Tonight’s AEW Collision kicked off with Kyle Fletcher’s first defense of the TNT Championship, with “The Protostar” securing the win after a predictably hard-hitting bout against Tomohiro Ishii.
After the bell, Fletcher got on the microphone and laid out a challenge to the NJPW roster for a TNT Title match at Forbidden Door – saying he wanted the “pound-for-pound” best from the company to step up to him at the event.
Don Callis then appeared on screen in a backstage segment to offer an invite to AEW Dynamite for whichever NJPW star planned to accept Fletcher’s challenge, so fans won’t have to wait long to find out who will be getting a TNT Championship match at Forbidden Door.
While it remains to be seen who will take up Fletcher’s offer, one NJPW star confirmed for Forbidden Door who does not yet have an official opponent is Hiroshi Tanahashi.
NJPW previously announced that “The Ace” would be competing at the event, in what would also be Tanahashi’s final match in the United Kingdom before retiring from in-ring competition.
We will provide updates on Fletcher’s potential AEW Forbidden Door opponent, as well as Tanahsahi’s, as/when more updates become available.
