An update has emerged on plans for the ‘triple crown’ cross-promotional title announced at AEW Full Gear 2023.

During the November 18 pay-per-view, ROH World and NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston stated that he’ll be putting both of his titles on the line in the AEW Continental Classic tournament.

It was noted that the winner of the round robin tournament will become a new ‘Triple Crown Champion’, with the victor becoming the ROH World, NJPW STRONG Openweight and AEW Continental Champion.

There has been some confusion about the futures of all of these titles, and what winning the tournament actually means for these AEW, ROH and NJPW title pictures.

During the post-show media scrum, Tony Khan confirmed that this new Triple Crown Championship will be a consolidation of the aforementioned titles, which will be unified into one championship that will be defended in AEW, ROH and NJPW.

Khan noted that this championship will be defended throughout the year across these three promotions, with the champion being entered into the AEW Continental Classic tournament every year.

The inaugural Continental Classic will begin on Wednesday’s (November 22) edition of Dynamite. The finals of the tournament will take place at the December 30 Worlds End show.

The current lineup for the tournament is as follows:
