An AEW champion has dismissed the notion that a challenger deserves a shot at his title following a successful defense on Dynamite.

The July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite saw Kevin Knight retain the TNT Championship against Lio Rush.

Having previously abandoned his JetSpeed teammate, Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight has thrown himself into the Don Callis Family.

AEW Double or Nothing on May 24 would bring Knight to the attention of Darby Allin, attacking the OG star after he defeated MJF.

Allin now has his eyes on Knight once again, and the TNT Championship in particular, only for the challenge to be rebuffed by Callis, calling the challenger a “criminal”.

Knight has gone on to address what went down on Dynamite, commenting on Lio Rush and focusing on Allin in a video shared on Twitter, saying:

“What a week. What a week it’s been for your TNT Champion, The Jet Kevin Knight. But time and time again, I’m gonna always be the one that they look up to. What I got to go through? Tables, deal with exploding book bags, falling off of cages, tacks… I’ma always make it through because that’s the type of fighting champion I am.

“And now I gotta deal with Lio Rush, this freak. It’s fine Lio, it’s fine, because at the end of the day, you were looking up at The Jet. Don’t stick your nose in business if it don’t belong, aight?

“Because now I got Darby Allin wanting to come back into the fray. Like Don told you, you’re not dealing with criminals; you don’t deserve a shot at this. You don’t deserve it.

“So you trying to step in the ring with me? It’s not happening, it’s not happening. So be patient, wait your turn and watch The Jet go to work, aight?

“So in the meantime, in-between time, sit back, enjoy the view and give praise to the one they look up to: The Jet Kevin Knight.”

Tommy Dreamer sees a bright future for Kevin Knight as a member of the Don Callis Family, suggesting the star could become AEW World Champion.

‘It’s Not Happening’ But ”Wait Your Turn’

Darby Allin, pursuing a third title run as TNT Champion, would further cement his standing as the AEW star to have held the title for the longest across his combined reigns, currently sitting at 214 days.

For Knight to dismiss the challenge in unequivocal terms seems like a good strategy for the star, although stating “It’s not happening, it’s not happening”, followed by “So be patient, wait your turn and watch The Jet go to work, aight?” does suggest a contradictory approach to the situation at hand.

Compare this to Kenny Omega challenging MJF for the AEW World Championship, a match set to take place on next week’s episode of Dynamite, which came with the proviso that the challenger would not be able to go after the title again if he loses. Little in the way of ambiguity in that circumstance.

Perhaps Knight was specifically focusing on the short term, knowing that he would eventually have no choice but to face Allin.
