A WWE star has detailed the dental injury that led to their absence from programming and in-ring action in late 2025.
The October 17 episode of WWE SmackDown saw “The Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu written off of TV following a backstage attack by a yet-to-be-determined individual.
The attack angle saw Fatu bleeding profusely from the mouth, with reports at the time stating that his absence was due to a dental injury.
Speaking on Busted Open, Fatu opened up about his absence and feeling the need to regroup personally, mentally and physically:
“We were speaking about it right before we came back, to get personal, no work or none of that, that time I took off I really needed to regroup, in my personal life, mentally and physically.
“Let’s keep it real, somebody like me man, seven kids getting this kind of dough, I’m not saying I’m rich but it’s a little different. I’m at Waffle House everyday I’m going crazy but I believe and I know it was God’s timing on what happened. I missed out on a lot of opportunities but then again I had to double back when I came back.”

Fatu was then asked by Bully Ray how he got back on track, with the former United States Champion discussing the realization he had while recovering from having 11 teeth pulled out.
Fatu said:
“It was being home. It was being home on the couch, 11 teeth I was supposed to get 12 teeth, but I got 11 teeth pulled out in the back.
“I remember my Uncle Rikishi saying this, ‘You been out of sight out of mind, that phone’s gonna stop ringing. That phone stopped ringing, nothing with my family or anything. But I’ve seen it with my family you get calls, calls, calls. But just sitting there looking at my kids walking by, them going to school, them coming back and still seeing me on the couch. Then I had to regroup.”
“Then I f**king looked at my weight, I looked at my weight, I looked where I was at. I won’t never forget Michael Hayes saying this, this is the truth, he said, ‘Jacob, depending on your conditioning depends on where you’re going.’
“I remember coming back off a run-in, ‘It’s not looking too good.’ He just looked the other way and that was like two weeks before I got injured and got the teeth (pulled out). But then I had to remember man, ‘All the years I took to get here, what are you doing?’”

Despite feuding with both Cody Rhodes and Jacob’s suspected 2025 attacker Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, Jacob Fatu does not currently have a path forward to WrestleMania 42 at the time of writing after failing to qualify for the Men’s Elimination Chamber on the February 13 episode of SmackDown.
