An update has emerged regarding WWE’s plans for WrestleMania 42 after Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship win.
With reports in recent months suggesting that Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns was potentially in the works for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, many fans were surprised to see Drew McIntyre dethrone the “American Nightmare” for his Undisputed WWE Title on the January 9 SmackDown.
As a result of McIntyre’s win, questions are now being asked regarding how this win will impact the “Grandest Stage of Them All”, and WWE’s plans for the event.
Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reports that WWE’s WrestleMania 42 plans did indeed change when they made the decision to book McIntyre to win the title on Wednesday, January 7.
While Meltzer admitted that he does not yet know the specifics of what WWE are planning to do at WrestleMania, a match between McIntyre, Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu is a “possibility” at the event or another time:
“WrestleMania changed on Wednesday of last week which is when they made the decision to go with the McIntyre title win.
“I don’t know what the new matches are, although they may be doing a three-way with McIntyre, (Jacob) Fatu and Cody Rhodes. That may not necessarily be at Mania, and that’s not even 100% but I was told that it’s a possibility.”

Jacob Fatu was the deciding factor in McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship win over Rhodes on Friday, with the “Samoan Werewolf” returning from injury to attack McIntyre, before then getting into a brawl with Rhodes, which allowed the Scottish star to escape the steel cage.
In regards to previously reported plans for a match between Rhodes and Roman Reigns, Meltzer said:
“The Cody Rhodes Roman Reigns thing is probably not happening, but whatever it is, the Mania plans were changed on Wednesday when they made the decision to change the championship.”

A third WrestleMania singles match in four years between Rhodes and Reigns was seemingly teased by WWE at the conclusion of Survivor Series’ Men’s WarGames Match, when the pair had a tense face-off.
We will provide further updates on WWE’s potential plans for WrestleMania 42 as more information becomes available.
