WWE Star Thinks Championship Has ‘Bounced Around’ Too Much, Calls For Longer Reign

WWE star Izzi Dame has criticized the quality of previous WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship reigns after winning the title at New Year’s Evil.

In what was a surprise impromptu title defense after Thea Hail vs. Blake Monroe was canceled earlier in the night, Hail issued an open challenge for her NXT women’s North American Championship, which was answered by Izzi Dame.

With Hail not being a 100% due to Blake Monroe’s steel chair attack during the show’s opening moments, Dame took advantage and pinned the 22-year-old to claim her first title in WWE.

Speaking with Busted Open’s Bully Ray, Dame discussed the opportunistic manner in which she won the gold and stated that she wants to bring some “meaning” to the title, unlike others who have held it prior.

Dame said:

“I took advantage of the opportunity, it was there, I took advantage of it, and now it’s like let’s have some fun.

“I feel like this title, it’s fairly new, what like a year and a half old? It was only introduced last year, and then Stephanie Vaquer vacated it so we had the big Ladder Match, Sol won, whatever, and I feel like since then it’s just been bouncing around.

“Since Kelani won it originally it’s just gone from person to person to person, and I feel like it’s time for somebody to hold the reins a bit you know?

“So that’s my short-term goal is to make this title have a little bit of meaning. Make my name have a little bit of meaning.”

While Dame’s claims that the title has “bounced around” since being introduced in June 2024, three stars have held the gold for over 100 days – that being inaugural champion Kelani Jordan, Fallon Henley and Sol Ruca – the latter of which held the gold for 189 days throughout much of 2025.

In the same interview Dame discussed comparisons with other blonde wrestlers in WWE and why she finds it “super frustrating” – click here for her full comments.
