Details have emerged on the backstage reaction within WWE to The Rock’s SmackDown segment with Cody Rhodes.
With The Rock’s appearance on the February 21 SmackDown episode announced just one day prior, there was a lot of speculation about what the Final Boss had in store for fans.
The Rock ultimately announced that WWE WrestleMania 42 will take place in New Orleans on April 11-12, 2025, before engaging in a segment with Cody Rhodes, during which he proposed that Rhodes be his champion moving forward.
This almost-30 minute segment received mixed responses from fans, with some fans arguing that it muddied Cody Rhodes’ direction ahead of WrestleMania 41.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there was someone within WWE who thought the interaction really diminished Cody Rhodes.
Meltzer noted the following about the WWE SmackDown segment:
“I know one person there who said they thought that he really diminished Cody.”
“One person there told me, ‘In one segment, he turned more than The Big Show did in his entire career’.”
