A top WWE star says he’s hoping somebody can put a stop to GUNTHER’s dominant “Career Killer” run following the recent retirements of AJ Styles and John Cena.
The Monday, February 23 episode of Monday Night Raw saw WWE celebrate the career of AJ Styles following his final match at the 2026 Royal Rumble.
While GUNTHER attempted to rain on the celebrations at the beginning of the show, it ended with the announcement that Styles will be inducted into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame – something Cody Rhodes has confirmed was a “complete surprise to everyone.”
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, Rhodes discussed the retirement of Styles and Cena, expressing hope that GUNTHER doesn’t claim the careers of any more legends any time soon:
“I don’t want any more retirements. We’re saying goodbye way too much to too many people…
“…To see John tap out, to see AJ go out like that, GUNTHER really is turning into The Career Killer, it’s more than just a moniker. Hopefully somebody can put an end to that.
“But I don’t want anymore retirements for a while. Let’s do debuts. New blood, new beginnings.”

After being attacking GUNTHER in back-to-back weeks, “The Ring General” will take on AJ Styles’ former tag team partner Dragon Lee on the March 2 episode of Raw.
