A WWE star has opened up on missing Randy Orton winning his first World Championship, and how it was his first ‘heartbreak’ in wrestling.
Ethan Page made the move over to WWE back in 2024, with him currently reigning as the North American Champion on the show.
Page has recalled his earliest memories in wrestling being seeing King Kong Bundy on television, but he has now opened up on his first heartbreak in the fandom.
Speaking on No-Contest Wrestling, Page told the story of his early Randy Orton fandom, and how he was heartbroken to miss his first World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2004 against Chris Benoit.
He said:
“I’m like peak wrestling fandom at this point, ordering every TNA pay-per-view, I’m deep into this; Ring of Honor, independent matches, I’m trading IWA Mid South burnt DVDs to catch up on my Chuck Taylor matches. Locked in.
“I’m in my friend group, and I might get in a little trouble for this but I was the only one that liked Randy Orton. Like shoulder report Randy, from that day, I’m hooked, I’m a fan of this guy and I’m supporting him no matter what.
“There’s a champion at the time in the company that ends up defending the title against Randy Orton, at a pay-per-view, and I’m telling all my friends; ‘this man is gonna become World Champion, and you’re all gonna eat my words’. I’m like the only guy that’s backing this guy up. Only guy.
“All the boys get together for pay-per-views, we order a bunch of pizzas, a bunch of fatass teenagers, the greatest nights of my adolescence for sure. I get grounded, and can not attend. I don’t know how many 13, 14 year olds get grounded, but I’m sure some internet sleuths gonna find out I was probably 17.
“I get grounded and can not attend. The text messages that I receive telling me that Randy Orton had won the World Heavyweight Championship, and I could not attend, might have been one of the most heartbreaking moments of my fandom, for sure.
“Everyone told me no chance, and I was dying on that hill and I couldn’t even be there to enjoy my victory. My parents robbed me, I take it back, I did not have a good childhood. Supervillains as parents.”
