New WWE NXT Champion Joe Hendry has revealed what he learned from John Cena, and how he plans to use his advice to take NXT to another level.
Joe Hendry won the NXT Championship on the February 3 NXT episode, retrieving the vacant title in a ladder match.
Speaking with Busted Open, Hendry noted that he now pays a lot more attention to figures surrounding shows he appears on, following advice from John Cena.
Hendry explained:
“The thing about humility is when you can allow that ego to go and you can be humble, you can also start to deal in facts. And that’s what I do now. I deal in facts and figures.
“So when I get advertised for a live event, when I arrive at the live event, ask what the draw is, what it was before, when I did my promo, what did the draw go up by? I now know what happens to the draw when I do a promo. If that starts to dip, well we’ve gotta change something up.
“I deal with facts and figures when it comes to me being on the show, because I learned that from John Cena, from talking to him. I learned that the top guys like John Cena, CM Punk, these guys are about facts and figures, they’re about statistics, and they’re about the numbers.
“And at the end of the day, it’s the wrestling BUSINESS. So from that aspect of things, from the business aspect of things, I’m super confident that I can add value to NXT.”
