A top WWE star has opened up on the company having ‘no creative’ for them coming out of WrestleMania 41 last year.
At last year’s WWE Royal Rumble event, Charlotte Flair made her return after over a year out of action with an injury, winning the Women’s Royal Rumble match to earn a shot at Tiffany Stratton’s WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 41.
Charlotte would end up coming short in the match, with her moving onto a storyline with Alexa Bliss shortly after, which saw her and Alexa form an alliance, capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam.
Speaking to Clutchpoints, Charlotte opened up on the formation of her and Alexa’s partnership, noting that Alexa had pitched to partner with her.
Charlotte noted the pitch came at the right time, as the company had ‘no creative’ for her coming out of WrestleMania.
She said:
“I wrote the essay, and then Lexi had been pitching to partner with me, and I had been such an isolated character for so long. And then Evolution happened. I couldn’t have planned it better.
“I had just gotten to a point where they had no creative for me after WrestleMania. What was next was to, I don’t know, rebuild. And like [John] Cena said, ‘Don’t be perfect, be you.’”
Charlotte and Alexa are set to team with Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY on tonight’s SmackDown show, facing off with Nia Jax, Lash Legend and the Kabuki Warriors.
