Now wrestling for MLW and on the independent scene, the former WWE star addressed the reaction he receives from fans during a recent appearance on Off The Ropes.

Admitting that he’s “always surprised” by how fans react to his appearances, Kross stated:

“I’ll be honest, I don’t care who hears this or how it sounds, but I’m always surprised at the reception that I get.

“I’m always surprised every single time, because so many people tried to hammer it into my head that it would be short-lived and it was going to go away, and that was the total opposite.

“It’s actually been getting bigger and louder, and it’s been all over the world.

“I think they say that because they’ve seen it happen to so many other people, but when you make a connection with the audience, that’s there.

“As long as you nurture that, and you give 110% to a smart audience who can see that you’re not phoning anything in, that stays with you and it lives.

“That’s been one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen. I’m always blown away.”

Kross would compete in his final match of his second WWE run at SummerSlam in August 2025, losing to Sami Zayn.

The Enduring Popularity Of Karrion Kross

The impact of Karrion Kross’ WWE release saw fans on SmackDown chant “We Want Kross“, with the star reacting and sharing comments made to him by R-Truth about his popularity with the audience.

First signed to WWE in 2020 and heading to NXT, Kross and Scarlett would be released a year later, only to return in 2022 for a second run.

A two-time NXT Champion, Kross and Scarlett were an intense and occasionally unsettling pairing, with mind games at the forefront of a formidable offense.

Curiously, Kross wasn’t able to replicate his NXT success on the main roster, despite finding himself involved in a number of feuds with top stars and having all the tools to succeed alongside them and in his own right.

His second run in the company saw an organic increase in his popularity with the fanbase, something that has continued out in the independent scene, although it appears that WWE were unable to capitalize on that very fan reaction.

DDP has recently stated that Kross was seemingly offered ‘mid-card money‘, sharing his surprise that WWE would let him go.

With Kross and Scarlett now back on the independent scene, there’s still the possibility that WWE could come calling in the future, although whether third time would be the charm for the captivating couple remains to be seen.
