WWE legend John Cena

John Cena has followed up on his announcement of the WWE John Cena Classic event during last night’s Backlash show.

Cena announced the John Cena Classic as a night of WWE main roster vs NXT matches, similar to the Saturday Night’s Main Event show that hosted his retirement in December.

He also noted that the John Cena Classic Championship won’t necessarily go to the person booked to win the tournament, but rather to whoever gets voted by WWE fans as the most deserving winner.

Now, he has followed up on social media, writing:

When asked to give advice, especially with WWE, I often reply

‘be authentic’

‘do not fear failure’

‘know your why.’

The John Cena Classic may not be perfect by any means yet it’s authentically me (I am not perfect either) and reflects my values and beliefs.

I’m aware that there is the risk it might be a total failure and I’m not afraid of that and believe it’s still worth stepping ‘in the arena.’

My ‘why’ in WWE is to consistently be as useful as possible for as long as possible, with my in ring career at an end, my ‘why’ is to use whatever energy or relevance I have left in hopes to create a launchpad of opportunity for all talent to show their skills while simultaneously creating a unique experience for our dedicated fan base.

At the very least.. we all learn something

At the very best.. we all create something

I’m ready for wherever the road takes us.

Thank you WWE for this opportunity

More details to come as we figure all this out!

Sincerely,

The Biggest Potential Issue With The John Cena Classic – WWE Fans Voting For The Champion

While on paper it might sound like a good idea to put the fans in charge and crown the WWE John Cena Classic Champion, there are a lot of risks that come with that.

The first one is that fans could easily hijack proceedings and just vote for whatever would be the ‘worst’ option at the time rather than voting for the genuine most deserving winner – there’s a lot of trust being put in the public here.

One way to prevent that issue would be to put some kind of barrier in the way of voting, such as the Club WWE paywall, so those people who would purposely hijack things wouldn’t because they wouldn’t pay to do it, but then only giving the privilege of voting to people who pay to do so would cause problems in itself.

Also, even if we say everyone voting was being genuine, the whole thing is basically just a popularity contest anyway and might just go to whoever the biggest name is rather than the real most deserving performer, which kind of defeats the point as well.

We’ll have to see if WWE tries to address any of those issues or just allows the voting process to be a big free-for-all.
