A WWE star has revealed that they don’t want to be simply known as ‘the highlight guy’, having been called up earlier this year.

Having signed with WWE in November 2023, Je’Von Evans would be a prominent member of the NXT roster before being called up to Raw in January of this year.

In a year that saw him debut in the men’s Royal Rumble and qualify for the men’s Elimination Chamber match, the star has reflected on how he wants to be seen on the main roster.

Speaking to Uncrowned via Yahoo Sports, Evans stated he didn’t want to be seen as ‘the highlight guy’.

Wanting to be the greatest of all time, Evans said:

“The highlights are cool. Highlights are moments and memories that people remember, especially for that night. But I don’t want to be known as just ‘the highlight guy.’ All the big dogs right now, they’re not known as the highlight guys. They’re known as being very heavy in story, very character work.

“I don’t want to be known as just the highlight person. I feel like it’s cool, but at the end of the day, highlights are not going to get me to being the greatest of all time. That’s my final goal.

“By the end of the day, I want to be the best to ever do it in WWE. Highlights are cool and all, but I feel like it’s not going to get me to that point. So I’m moving into working on character, promos, just to get to where I want to be.”

One thing that may not have been a highlight for Evans was the finisher that Logan Paul delivered to him at WWE Elimination Chamber, with The Vision member reflecting on the rough landing after the event.

Has The Highlight Reel Had Its Day?

There was a time when Kofi Kingston had memorable moments – highlights, if you will – during the Royal Rumble, with WWE even showcasing the occasions his athleticism and dexterity saved him from an elimination.

While highlights can lead to a viral moment on Twitter, and may be what some fans remember of a match, Evans has a point when he states that the aforementioned ‘big dogs’ are known for their story and character work.

With stories as sprawling as Judgment Day or The Bloodline, fans may remember specific moments, be it a line in a promo, a spot in a match, a shock happening, but that doesn’t take away from the depth of the story itself.

It’s easy to focus on a moment like Cody Rhodes, bloodied at the hands of Randy Orton, but that memory is merely a snapshot in a much bigger picture that will lead to, at this stage, who knows where ahead of WrestleMania 42 and their Undisputed WWE Championship match.

Despite not wanting to be known as such, Evans will no doubt be involved in further highlight moments, but that shouldn’t take away from his ambition to be remembered as he hopes to be.
