The current WWE ID Champion Chazz “Starboy” Hall is set to face Mustafa Ali in a TNA International Championship open challenge on iMPACT!
Previously known as Starboy Charlie, the star now known as Chazz “Starboy” Hall defeated Cappuccino Jones to become WWE ID Men’s Champion on March 23.
Fresh off a successful WWE ID Men’s Championship defense against Titus Alexander on May 5 at Marvellous 10th Anniversary Commemorative Event in Japan, Hall heads to TNA, making his debut on iMPACT in a match that will air this Thursday.
The announcement was made on the TNA Wrestling Twitter account in a post that reads:
“BREAKING:
“@MustafaAli_X’s TNA International Title open challenge continues as he faces @starb0ycharlie THURSDAY at 9/8c on AMC, AMC+ and TNA+, and 8pm ET on Sportsnet 360. #TNAiMPACT”
Ali has held the TNA International Championship since defeating Trey Miguel at Rebellion back in April of this year, holding his first open challenge on iMPACT! at the end of that month.
WWE ID Stars, The Independent Scene & Their Future
The WWE ID program serves to mentor independent wrestling stars, allowing them to continue to compete outside of the TKO-owned company, while benefiting from coaching from the likes of X-Pac.
For some, such as Vanity Project, their association with WWE ID would see them compete in NXT, with Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes being the current NXT Tag Team Champion, and Jackson Drake being a former EVOLVE Champion.
EVOLVE, under WWE ownership, has served as a feeder towards NXT for Performance Center prospects and those under the WWE ID system, while also showcasing recognized stars from the Tuesday night show.
It likely comes as little surprise that Hall is heading to TNA iMPACT!, a show that has seen crossover with WWE programming thanks to the ongoing partnership between both companies, and facing a star of Ali’s caliber is no doubt a standout opportunity for a young talent.
Hall has already made his NXT debut, facing Lexis King in a losing effort in the WWE Speed Championship Tournament semi-final on April 7. A loss it may have been, but there’s every possibility that Hall, a popular star across the independent scene, will get further opportunities to showcase his talents.
