A WWE Hall of Famer has clarified his current status with the company after some recent appearances, saying he is not a contracted performer.
JBL recently reappeared on WWE programming as an English language announcer for AAA TripleMania 33 in August and WWE & AAA Worlds Collide this past Friday.
He joined the team of Corey Graves and Konnan, who called the first Worlds Collide as a duo in June, which was the first AAA show under the WWE banner that was broadcasted by the company.
JBL has also made a number of appearances in other promotions throughout the past year, including showing up in TNA, Destiny Wrestling, GCW and MLW.
On the latest episode of Something to Wrestle, JBL was asked to clarify if he’s currently a WWE contracted performer. He replied:
“Absolutely not. Nope. No. Do not work for them.
“I have a wonderful relationship that I’m very happy with, and I don’t do anything that surprises them. I have a great relationship. If I’m gonna do something, sometimes I will give them a heads up that I’m gonna do something, just out of common respect and courtesy.
“I love those guys, and I love the company, I’ve been there 30-something years, I’m not gonna do anything to harm that company. But no – people accuse me of being a shill for them, working for them, that’s not true.
“I am doing some stuff with them and I’m glad when they call. I always answer the phone, and if I can do it, I’ll always be there for them.”
