WWE Recognizes The Body Slam Heard Around The World

March 29, 1987, saw Hulk Hogan put the WWF World Heavyweight Championship on the line against the Eighth Wonder of the World, Andre The Giant.

The match at the Pontiac Silverdome would see Hogan win with “the body slam heard around the world”, hoisting the heavyweight up before planting him on the mat and finishing him off with a leg drop, retaining the title in the process.

The upcoming induction marks the third time that Hogan will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, having become a member of the Class of 2005 on his own and as part of the nWo in 2020.

With this posthumous induction, Hogan becomes the second star to hold three WWE Hall of Fame inductions alongside Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

A controversial figure, particularly throughout the later years of his life, for many Hulk Hogan simply was professional wrestling, being one of the most recognizable stars in both WCW and the now-WWE throughout his storied career.

Andre The Giant, who passed away in January 1993, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in that year, with his own career being well-remembered and the WWE going to honor him in the form of a titular Memorial Trophy that has been contested regularly in a Battle Royal since WrestleMania 30.

Both Hogan and Andre would see their celebrity shine beyond WWE through movies and television.
