A former WWE star has addressed the learning curve surrounding their move from NXT to the main roster.
Following a stint in NXT which saw her hold the NXT Women’s Championship for a combined 548 days, Shayna Baszler joined the main roster in January 2020, as part of that year’s Royal Rumble match.
She remained on the main roster for five years, ahead of her departure from WWE this past July.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Baszler opened up about having to re-introduce herself to WWE audiences following her call-up, noting:
“I think there’s a learning curve regardless of moving from NXT to the main roster.
“I don’t think I understood at the time that the main roster audience is so much bigger than NXT that most of them don’t know who you are.
“There is that hardcore crowd, and they show up at pay-per-views, but the majority of people who watch SmackDown and Raw do not watch NXT.
“I think that was a bit of a wake up call for me, because I debuted at the Rumble, but the Rumble is a big-time pay-per-view, so the die-hards were there.
“Then they lay out this general plan, ‘We’re gonna put you in a feud with Becky, and this is gonna be your thing.’
“I’m doing house shows and stuff, and people in the audience not really knowing about me, yet, they just know, this is that NXT girl that they called up. There is a learning curve there.”
