Plans have been revealed for a former WWE champion after they recently lost their title, bringing an end to an inaugural reign.
Having become the first WWE ID Champion at Game Changer Wrestling’s The ID Showcase last August, Cappuccino Jones recently saw his 234-day reign brought to an end by Starboy Charlie at Wrestling Open RI on March 23.
No longer a champion, Jones has given insight into where his WWE journey will take him next during a recent appearance on the Opinion City Podcast.
Having set his sights on the WWE Evolve Championship during Jackson Drake’s tenure, Jones revealed that the gold is his, and new champion Aaron Rourke just doesn’t know it yet.
When asked if he’s going to target Rourke with the same intensity that he targeted Drake, Jones responded:
“So, yes and no. Yes because I do want that title. It is mine, ultimately, Aaron just doesn’t know it yet.
“But I have a lot more respect for Aaron than I do Jackson. Aaron’s one of those guys I built a relationship with, fighting alongside against Team PC.
“Aaron, I’ve tagged with him, against him. We’ve wrestled, I defended (the WWE ID Championship) against him. We’ve earned each other’s respect, but at the end of the day, we all want to be number one; we all want that spot.
“All the love in the world for Aaron, congratulations to him. He’s made history, and I’m so happy for him. It’s really cool to see that moment, but when the time is right, when the pot gets to that temperature, we’re going to see. Aaron might just get burned.”

Jones’ comments indicate that instead of attempting to reclaim the ID title on the independent scene, that we’ll see more of him on Evolve moving forward.
Jackson Drake was the inaugural WWE Evolve Champion, holding the title for 287 days before his loss to Aaron Rourke on the March 18 episode of the Tubi show.
Earlier this year, Jones faced Drake in a losing effort for the WWE Evolve Championship at Succession II, with a previous encounter having the same result back in October of last year at WFA ID Showcase.
Jones had also previously retained the WWE ID Championship against Rourke at HOC ID Showcase: Battle Of Champions in October of last year.
The Changing Face Of WWE ID
Launching in October 2024, WWE ID is a development program squarely targeted at independent wrestlers and a potential career in the TKO-owned company.
With the stars signed to WWE ID continuing the work on the independent wrestling scene, the men’s and women’s championships can be contested at events such as the ID Showcase, with Future Stars of Wrestling holding one such show over WrestleMania 42 week in Las Vegas.
The program has seen its numbers grow since its launch, with Starboy Charlie being a recent addition, earning a WWE ID contract alongside the newly won championship.
WWE ID stars are regularly featured on Evolve and NXT, with Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes of Vanity Project going on to become the Tuesday night brand’s Tag Team Champions.
Even former names have found opportunities through the development program, with NXT’s Sloane Jacobs, now Notorious Mimi, recently re-signing under WWE ID.
Another pathway into the company, WWE ID stands alongside the Tryouts system and Next In Line (NIL), with the latter specifically targeting elite college athletes.
