A former WWE star has revealed that he still thinks about a nixed Wyatt Family pitch that he made to Vince McMahon.
With Windham Rotunda passing away on August 24, 2023, his legacy continues through the Wyatt Sicks in WWE, led by Uncle Howdy (previously known as Bo Dallas).
The original iteration of the Wyatt Family was born in November 2012, with Bray Wyatt accompanied by Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, adding Daniel Bryan, Braun Strowman and Randy Orton to the mix in later years.
Chris Jericho has now revealed a scrapped pitch that he made that would have seen Shawn Michaels play a part in proceedings.
Speaking to Gameshub, Jericho revealed that he still thinks about the idea and how a steak ended up being the focal point of the meeting, saying:
“I had one really great idea for Vince that I still think about. The timing going in was off — when I walked into his office, Triple H was there, which is never ideal because you want to be one-on-one with Vince. And then on top of that, he hadn’t eaten yet, and when Vince is eating, he’s not paying attention to anything else.
“The idea was a storyline involving Bray Wyatt and Shawn Michaels. The premise was that the Wyatt Family would attack me, and the only person I could call who was crazy enough to have my back was Shawn — even after our rivalry. He comes back to confront me, and just as we’re about to go at it, the Wyatt Family attacks us both.
“Now you don’t know whether Shawn was going to take my offer or not, but he’s involved. It would be Jericho and HBK against the Wyatt Family, with a SummerSlam match in mind.
“It was a really solid pitch. But Vince just sat there eating his steak, and when I finished he said, ‘Bad cow.’ I said, ‘What?’ He goes, ‘Bad cow — the steak is tough.’ I said, What do you think of my pitch? He goes, ‘What else you got?’
“The steak killed the whole angle. But that’s the nature of working for Vince — if he doesn’t like it, you’re done. Same with Tony, to a degree. You have to please your boss.”
Wyatt and Jericho would feud throughout 2014, with matches at WWE Battleground and SummerSlam during that year leading to a steel cage match in September on Raw, with Wyatt victorious.
The Wyatt Family would continue in WWE until Bray was moved to Raw as part fo the WWE Superstar Shake-Up of 2017, with Harper and Rowan continuing on as The Bludgeon Brothers.
The Light That Burnt So Bright
Originally Husky Harris in the 2010 reality show era of NXT, mentored by Cody Rhodes, the star later known as Bray Wyatt would feature prominently in The Nexus storyline, only to return to the FCW development territory in March the following year.
That time away and the creation of Bray Wyatt was, arguably, the making of the star, showing an incredible grasp of the surreal and unsettling, matched by his in-ring ability and given a degree of creative reign back on television.
The evolution of the character from NXT to the main roster lost none of its impact, with fans still speaking highly of the Firefly Fun House and The Fiend era of Wyatt’s time.
To this day, Wyatt is still remembered fondly by many WWE stars, with LA Knight recently reflecting on being the late star’s final opponent.
The former Baron Corbin has also shared that he still has the final message that Bray Wyatt sent him, describing him as “the true definition of a creative mind”.
Continuing the tradition of creepy presence that the late star embodied, the Wyatt Sicks have carved out a niche on WWE SmackDown, with Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy being former WWE Tag Team Champions.
