WWE addressed how the return of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam came about during tonight’s August 4 episode of Raw.
The main event of SummerSlam night two saw Cody Rhodes win the WWE Championship from John Cena, but the story was far from over.
With Cena left in the ring, Brock Lesnar made his return after two years away and F5’d Cena.
After a break following SummerSlam 2023, Lesnar was scheduled for a return to WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble, but was pulled from the show due to being referred to in the sexual abuse & trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE that was filed days prior. During his two-year absence, Lesnar had remained listed on the current WWE roster on the company’s official website.
On tonight’s episode of Raw, Michael Cole commented on Lesnar’s return. He said:
“Earlier today, I had the opportunity to sit down with WWE President Nick Khan and WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque.
“And I asked them a simple question. When was it determined that Brock Lesnar would return to WWE?
“They told me they reached out to Brock a number of weeks ago, and said, ‘We believe it’s time for you to come home’.
“Brock Lesnar said, ‘Let’s do it’, and here we are.”
