The reason behind a WWE star’s ongoing absence has seemingly been revealed amid rumors of a main roster call-up.
Tony D’Angelo was last seen in the NXT ring on July 15, defeating Channing Lorenzo and Luca Crusifino and effectively disbanding his own faction.
He would later appear in a pre-taped segment, seeming to retire his “Don” character before being confronted by a figure shrouded in shadows.
While D’Angelo would compete at an NXT house show after his last televised match, he has been absent from the ring, with suggestions that he could be the subject of a main roster call-up soon.
The call-up is yet to be seen, although Dave Meltzer has now provided an insight into D’Angelo’s ongoing absence.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer confirmed that, according to his sources, D’Angelo’s absence is not related to an injury.
Meltzer would go on to state that D’Angelo is absent from television as he had “asked for time off”.
There would be no indication as to when or where the former NXT North American Champion would resurface.
Along with the North American Championship, D’Angelo is a former Heritage Cup and two-time NXT Tag Team Champion, with Lorenzo.
WrestleTalk will provide further details of D’Angelo’s whereabouts as and when they emerge, right here.
