A recently-crowned WWE champion has mocked a potential challenger for their confidence in considering themselves a competitor.
Having recently lost the WWE ID Championship to Starboy Charlie, Cappuccino Jones has set his sights on another title that recently changed hands.
With Aaron Rourke as the new WWE Evolve Champion, following his defeat of Jackson Drake, Jones has targeted the new title holder, setting a challenge for the future.
The challenge has seen a response from Rourke himself, who appeared rather dismissive of Jones, tweeting:
“Awwwww, we love confidence!”
With both stars currently signed to WWE ID contracts, the Evolve Championship has been defended on the independent wrestling scene as well as on the Tubi show under Jackson Drake’s reign.
Jones is no stranger to chaseing the WWE Evolve Championship, having faced Drake in a loss at WFA ID Showcase in October last year and a further defeat on the Tubi show itself in January this year.
Rourke is yet to defend the title that he won on the March 18 episode of WWE Evolve, with that show having been taped back in February.
The Chance For WWE Stars To Evolve
WWE ID allows signed stars to continue to work on the independent scene, benefiting from mentorship and development under the TKO-owned company.
For some stars, beyond the independent shows, a presence has been established on Evolve and NXT, with the likes of Vanity Project (Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes) featuring on both non-televised events and the weekly show.
Baylor and Smokes have seen further success, cementing their status as future stars, becoming NXT Tag Team Champions with their victory over DarkState’s Saquon Shugars and Osiris Griffin.
A WWE ID contract is no guarantee that a televised future awaits, but all the tools are there for the right talent to develop in all the ways that are needed to make it a reality.
With WrestleMania 42 taking place in Las Vegas next month, the latest WWE ID Showcase will give this crop of stars the opportunity to, for lack of a better term, showcase their talents.
While, as Triple H may say, “the show doesn’t end”, fans are no doubt expecting call-ups from NXT to the main roster in the post-WrestleMania landscape, with this marking a perfect opportunity for the Tuesday night show to expand its roster with the pick of the development program offerings.
