The winner of an ongoing tournament on WWE television has been crowned, with a championship now made official.
Back at NXT Heatwave, it was confirmed that the Men’s and Women’s WWE Speed Championships were now a part of the NXT brand rather than the main roster after the Speed episodes on X were canceled, with champion Sol Ruca set to defend her title at the upcoming WWE No Mercy event.
This led to a Women’s Speed Championship Tournament taking place on NXT television involving WWE’s Candice LeRae, NXT’s Lainey Reid, TNA’s Xia Brookside and AAA’s Faby Apache to determine the challenger for Sol’s title.
In the first round of the tournament, Candice defeated Xia while Lainey defeated Apache, setting up Candice LeRae vs. Lainey Reid as the final of the tournament for tonight’s WWE NXT show.
On the night, it was Lainey Reid who picked up the victory, with her set to challenge Sol Ruca for the Women’s Speed Championship at No Mercy, her first ever premium live event.
Sol Ruca also currently reigns as the NXT Women’s North American Champion.
