Jacob Fatu has commented on his recent push into the main event picture on WWE SmackDown, with “The Samoan Werewolf” saying that the spot is where he feels he’s supposed to be.
After spending three months on the sidelines due to a dental injury, Jacob Fatu returned to WWE TV during the main event of the January 9 episode of SmackDown, where he crucially invaded Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes’ Three Stages of Hell Match.
This interference led to McIntyre dethroning Rhodes for his Undisputed WWE Title, and saw Jacob become involved in a three-way feud with both men over the following weeks and months.
While it was at one point reported that Fatu could potentially compete in a three-way with Rhodes and McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42, WWE instead went with Cody Rhodes taking the title off McIntyre and proceeding into a title match with Randy Orton at “The Show of Shows.”
Despite it not being for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Fatu and McIntyre will face off in an Unsanctioned Match at WrestleMania 42, in what has been one of the most prominent feuds on TV heading into the two-night event.
Speaking with SHAK Wrestling, Fatu shared his thoughts on being involved in the WWE Title picture since his January return:
“It’s very good. I think it’s where I’m supposed to be. It’s a good fit. It’s the best fit right now.
“But I’m not with regular people, these are names guys who have done major and huge things within WWE, Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes.
“It’s not overwhelming but there is a fan side of me a little bit sometimes where like, damn, I’m really here tapping in with them. It’s gonna be a good outlook, a good turnout so far. So far it’s been good since I came back, so just day by day with it.”

WWE’s Messy Booking Of The Undisputed WWE Title In 2026
While fans have called for a Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton one-on-one feud ever since “The American Nightmare” returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, the execution of the storyline thus far has failed to live up to expectations.
This disappointment reached a whole new level on the Friday, April 3 episode of SmackDown however, as it was revealed that Pat McAfee was Randy Orton’s mystery caller who has been in the ear of “The Viper” since he turned heel three weeks ago.
With WWE’s social media flooded with comments criticising the logic of McAfee’s involvement in a storyline that seemed like such a lay-up for the company, it’s worth questioning whether the company would have been better off going the route they seemed to be heading on in the build to Elimination Chamber: a multi-man match also involving Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu.
It’s easy to see why WWE went with Orton vs. Rhodes rather than a three-way or four-way involving Fatu and McIntyre; they wanted to sell tickets and the one-on-one match they now have in store at WrestleMania 42 is a bigger bout on paper. While that may be the case, its execution has been woefully underwhelming.
Whether it be due to injuries changing plans, TKO higher-ups giving orders to creative, or otherwise, the booking of the Undisputed WWE Championship heading into WrestleMania 42 has been a mess, with the long-term storytelling of Triple H’s early years on creative seeming like a distant memory at this point.
