Trick Williams has commented on whether Carmelo Hayes should be added to his WWE WrestleMania 42 United States Title match with Sami Zayn.
As things stand, Williams will challenge Zayn for the WWE US Title at Mania after Zayn defeated Hayes to win the title, then retained it against him last week.
Speaking with The US Sun, Williams was asked how he feels about the possibility of Hayes being added to make it a three-way.
He said:
“We definitely have a story and as far as what it would mean to the people, I think that’d be a beautiful moment.
“But, the truth is, whoever is in front of me has got to get it.
“And as much as I care about Carmelo Hayes and as much of a friend that he once was to me, I don’t want to beat him down on the biggest stage of them all like that and embarrass him for his first WrestleMania.
“I think that’d be a little cruel to do that to one of your friends, but in the event that it does happen, whoever’s in front of me has got to get it, so it is what it is.”
WWE Would Be Making A Mistake To Leave Carmelo Hayes Out Of WrestleMania
For the past couple of years, WWE SmackDown has been a far cry from the days of the height of the Bloodline.
A combination of moving to three hours and moving on from the Bloodline storyline led to a tumultuous, but there was one leading light, and that was Carmelo Hayes’s matches.
Whether it be his series with Andrade El Idolo or more recent matches against Ilja Dragunov, Hayes’ matches often saved SmackDown from being a complete disaster.
There were always questions about his connection to the audience, but those questions were answered in recent months when he broke away from The Miz and his fan reactions got noticeably bigger.
WWE now has a great chance to get some goodwill back from the fans – and even the roster – at a time it’s sorely needed by re-inserting Hayes into the US Title match at Mania with Trick Williams and Sami Zayn.
