Ethan Page has revealed why he recently started using his Canadian nationality as part of his character on WWE TV.
In recent months, including with his partnership with fellow Canadian Chelsea Green, Page has brought his love for Canada to the forefront of his presentation.
This even included him redesigning the NXT North American Championship belt to have a Canada flag strap.
Speaking with Mark Moses, Page explained why he made the decision to incorporated his nationality, pointing to it being a strategic decision with WWE airing live on Netflix in Canada.
He said:
“I realized the opportunity with the deals that WWE’s been making recently with streaming, we have our shows airing internationally live.
“So on Netflix in Canada, everyone from my home country is able to watch me live every Tuesday when NXT airs. In my home country that’s huge. So why would I not want to show them that I’m supporting them throughout this entire experience?
“I would assume others from other countries feel the same, because again, we stream internationally on Netflix around the world. So this company has become even more global than before, and I found the timing to be absolutely perfect.
“It was mildly strategic, but what isn’t in wrestling?”
