An update has emerged on speculation about Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of The New Day potentially joining AEW, following their WWE departures.
Kingston and Woods are no longer with WWE, with the company removing the duo from the current roster and adding them to the Alumni section of the public roster page.
With Fightful Select and Cory Hays of Bodyslam reporting that the duo “mutually decided to part ways with WWE,” there have already been a lot of rumors swirling about what’s next for the multi-time tag-team champions.
Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, there is “a lot of excitement in AEW circles” about the possibility of The New Day joining the company.
A number of people connected to AEW reportedly reached out to PWInsider to point out that the Young Bucks and New Day previously teased the idea of wrestling each other years ago, with this match now potentially possible.
Up until now, the closest The New Day and The Elite have come to battling it out has been on the Street Fighter video game, as you can see below:
PWInsider also noted that a number of AEW names have taken to social media to reference Kingston and Woods.
One of these talents was former AEW World Champion MJF, who took to his Instagram Story to write:
“It’s a new day…. yes it is.”
Cash Wheeler also took to Twitter to share lyrics from the song Cot Damn, which read “Cot damn, it’s a new day”.
With Woods and Kingston dominating the WWE tag-team division for over a decade, many wrestling fans have pitched dream matches for the New Day against a number of teams who are currently with AEW. It would be fun to see the duo face off against opponents who they never would’ve encountered had they stayed with WWE.
At the time of writing, Big E is still listed on the Current Superstars section of the WWE roster page.
We will continue to provide more updates as they become available.
