Maxxine Dupri has opened up about feeling “nervous” and “emotional” about her match against Becky Lynch on WWE Raw.

Dupri challenged Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship in Dupri’s hometown of Sacramento, a match that ended with Lynch getting herself disqualified, ensuring she kept hold of her title.

This match came after Dupri and Lynch had a highly praised match two weeks prior, which Dupri won by countout.

On the official WWE Raw Recap show, Dupri reflected on the match, calling it “really special” given the circumstances of it being in her hometown, and the magnitude of it being a championship match against Becky Lynch.

She said:

“Tonight was really special. It was emotional for me being out there and hearing the crowd and being in my hometown.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in this arena, so to be performing at that level with Becky Lynch, even though she can’t follow a single rule apparently and she stays on the run – that title, I feel, should be in better hands – but it doesn’t matter because I’m going back to training harder and I’m going back to making sure that I’m in a place that I can beat her fair and square. I don’t wanna win by DQ, I wanna win by pinning her shoulders down or by her tapping out.

“When I was in the ring tonight doing our championship intros and she was introducing me from Sacramento and my mom and dad were in the front row, and I’m being introduced by Lilian Garcia, it’s like, you can’t make this up. This is crazy.

“It really made me emotional. It was giving me goosebumps, and I was like, I could shed a tear, but if I do, then Becky will probably catch me slipping so I need to stay locked in. But I did really feel it tonight. Tonight was one of those moments where I was like, this is all worth it.

“I think you’re only as good as your last performance, and last (time) we had ‘this is awesome’ chants, so I was nervous today. I know that I did that, but I kind of shocked myself doing it. So I’m like, can I do it again? Can I perform at this level consistently?

“But we’re doing it, and I think that’s the beauty of it, is I get to take everyone on the ride with me. I’m just a girl out here doing my best and I feel very blessed to get to do it in my hometown.”

Dupri has been working an increased number of WWE NXT live events in recent months in addition to training at places like the WWE Performance Center, Flatbacks school and The Dungeon.

She was called up to the main roster in 2022 with effectively zero in-ring experience, and has been learning on the job ever since.
