Speaking about the angle to TMZ’s Inside The Ring, former WWE star Matt Hardy discussed the angle, noting that he thinks it could end up being ‘pretty good’.

He said:

“Just with this new angle they’ve done, I’ve got a very strong suspicion that Randy Orton is going to leave as the champion, and I feel like Cody will chase, but I’m very intrigued.

“I know a lot of people threw their arms up at this angle with Pat McAfee like ‘why is this happening’, but it’s kind of intriguing, and I think, considering how they follow this up and how they follow through with it, it could ultimately end up being pretty good.”

WWE Making Changes To Pat McAfee Angle?

Following CM Punk and Cody Rhodes’ promos on the angle, there has been reports that WWE is potentially set to adjust some plans for the story following the reception from the angle.

Fans have anticipated a rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton following Cody’s return to WWE back in 2022 given the almost 20 years of history between the two men.

With the reveal of McAfee being the caller not being a popular one, and there still being two SmackDown shows to go before WrestleMania, WWE could still make a shift in plans to focus more solely on the history between Orton and Rhodes ahead of the show.

However, with McAfee’s inclusion partly due to corporate synergy between WWE and ESPN, expect him to remain a part of the angle in some form.
