Liv Morgan has addressed her distant stare whilst hugging John Cena at WWE Survivor Series 2025.
After suffering a shoulder injury in June 2025, Liv Morgan made her surprise return five months later at WWE Survivor Series 2025 in San Diego, CA.
Arriving during Dominik Mysterio and John Cena’s Intercontinental Title Match, Morgan at first seemed to be turning her back on her on-screen boyfriend Mysterio after she slapped him and jumped into the unknowing arms of Cena.
However, in a moment that was captured by WWE with a close up shot of Morgan’s face, her happy expression quickly turned sinister as she stared coldly into the distance before jumping out of Cena’s arms and kicked the 17-time world champion in the groin.
During her appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Morgan revealed she isn’t sure how she pulled the expression on her face in that moment, but feels it was ” iconic.”
Morgan said:
“I don’t even know how I did that. My eyes, I was like, Whoa, dilated. I must have tapped into something right there. I don’t know.
“But yeah, it was so iconic, and I couldn’t have written a better return, and I mean that so wholeheartedly.
“I couldn’t, first of all, I would not even have come up with that myself that was so much more grand and special to me than anything I could have thought of myself. So I was just so happy and honored.”
Liv Morgan Recalls Shoulder Injury Setback
While Liv Morgan is extremely happy with how her return was handled, the injury setback from five months earlier was one that seemed to derail some potentially big plans for her at WWE Evolution 2025 in July.
It appeared as if WWE were setting up Morgan for a feud with the returning Nikki Bella, with reports at the time being that Brie Bella was in talks regarding a return to WWE in time to be involved in a potential tag match pitting The Bella Twins vs. Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez.
Reflecting on her injury, which took place during the opening stages of a match with Kairi Sane on the June 16 WWE Raw, Morgan said:
“Yeah, I just took a weird fall, tried to brace myself, which is stupid. As soon as it happened, I knew, just because you can’t feel anything.
“But first of all, it’s like such an intense pain, then it just goes away, and then you can’t feel anything because your shoulder is just not connected. So yeah, I knew. I rolled out the ring. I tried to pop it back in. Medical came and tried to pop it back in, and it was kind of just like, I can’t continue, I can’t do anything else. So I had to throw in the towel, which I hated.
“I think I tried to be really optimistic until my MRI news, I was like, I think I’m okay, but I had done the same thing two years prior. So I knew it wasn’t okay, but I didn’t really want to speak it into existence.”
