There was a big development on tonight’s January 20 WWE Raw as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens came face-to-face.
While Kevin Owens has been picking a fight with Cody Rhodes for teaming up with Roman Reigns, he had yet to confront Zayn about doing the very same thing.
Tonight, that happened, but Owens was a lot calmer than you might have thought.
Before Owens came out, Sami Zayn declared for the Royal Rumble match, and that declaration tied into Owens’ own plans.
At Royal Rumble, Owens faces Cody Rhodes in a ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
That means, if Owens beats Rhodes, and Zayn wins the Rumble, that would theoretically set up an Owens vs Zayn WrestleMania main event for the WWE Championship.
Rather than being mad at Zayn, Owens explains that he understands Zayn’s decision to forgive Reigns – because multiple times in the past, Zayn has actually forgiven Owens for similar betrayals.
Owens then tugged on Zayn’s heartstrings and suggested the potential WrestleMania main event, pitching it as their ultimate dream match from when they first met 20+ years ago.
Owens went as far as saying that if he needs help, he knows Zayn will do the right thing – essentially trying to get Zayn on side to help him beat Rhodes with the idea it’ll mean they’ll be able to achieve their WrestleMania one-on-one main event dream together.
Zayn didn’t provide an answer as to whether he would or wouldn’t help Owens, instead just stuck in thought as Owens left.
