Karl Anderson’s replacement for his scheduled match against Hikuleo at NJPW Battle Autumn has potentially been revealed.
Anderson was originally scheduled to defend his NEVER Openweight Championship against Hikuleo at the November 5 event.
The star has since returned to WWE, and stated that he will not be honoring the NJPW booking, as it clashes with his WWE booking, with Anderson set to team with Luke Gallows & AJ Styles at Crown Jewel.
While NJPW issued a statement noting that if Anderson doesn’t make his title defence, he will be stripped of the gold, the promotion hasn’t announced any official changes to this bout at the time of writing.
Following the Rumble on 44th Street event on October 29, Bullet Club’s Yujiro Takahashi issued a challenge to Hikuleo. Takahashi said:
“Hikuleo! All you’ve got is your size. In Osaka, why don’t you try and take on a former NEVER Openweight Champion?”
The NJPW Global Twitter account reasoned that Hikuleo ‘only has eyes for Karl Anderson’, further teasing a future title bout.
Despite recent interactions, Karl Anderson is expected to wrestle for NJPW in the future, despite returning to WWE. You can read more about Anderson’s NJPW future right here.
