AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has opened up about what he wants to accomplish over his next few years with the company.
Moxley recently signed a five-year extension with AEW, keeping him on the company’s roster until at least 2027. His new contract includes “mentoring and coaching” roles.
Before signing his new contract, Moxley was secretly working without one, as his previous contract had expired in mid-July.
Appearing on Cincy 360 with Tony Pike, Moxley spoke about the coming years he has left with the company:
“It’s definitely really cool to be on the ground floor of [AEW]. I bet on myself to a good degree, is a good way to put it, when I left WWE. But, the last, last three years have been the best three years of my career, for sure.
“But like, a lot of the mindset was like, I don’t know if selfish is the right word, but self-interested. Like, where am I going to have the best matches … Now, looking forward to the next five years, I think a lot of that has shifted to, ‘Okay, how can I give back to wrestling. How can I perpetuate wrestling going forward?'”
Moxley defeated Hangman Adam Page on yesterday’s (October 18) edition of AEW Dynamite to retain his status as AEW World Champion. The match was abruptly cut short due to Hangman suffering what has been diagnosed as a concussion.
After the match, MJF announced that he would be cashing in his poker chip for a shot at Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship in the main event of Full Gear on November 19.
