John Cena has been praised for his role in helping to facilitate a WWE star’s recent return to the company.
Ahead of John Cena’s final match, a tournament took place across Raw and SmackDown to determine who would get the honor of being his final opponent.
The tournament featured a one night return of Zack Ryder, who faced off with LA Knight in the first round.
However, Cardona made his official WWE return on last week’s episode of SmackDown under his real name, with him officially being announced as a member of the SmackDown roster.
Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Chelsea Green, the wife of Matt Cardona, praised Cena for his support of them over the years, and noted that he facilitated Cardona’s WWE return following the tournament appearance.
She said:
“When we go and have our little date nights with John and Shay, he’s very open and honest and very, very kind to us.
“He’s been very supportive throughout, especially after Matt left WWE and was on the Indies, he was very supportive of his journey to get back to WWE, because that was always Matt’s goal. So it’s been fun to go on those date nights and track the progression towards this goal.
“Then for John to help facilitate that as well, obviously Matt did all the hard work, but I really think that John, helping him get into that tournament, was what made WWE see ‘oh wow, that is a superstar that we need’. He’s an Indie star but he is, at his core, a WWE superstar.”
