Joe Gacy has recalled feeling the presence of Bray Wyatt backstage in WWE in the weeks after the Wyatt Sicks made their debut together on television.

This past Friday (April 24) saw WWE’s latest slate of talent roster cuts, with 24 names confirmed to have exited the company.

Among the most high profile departures was the entire Wyatt Sicks faction, with Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas), Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross, Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis all being let go.

As well as looking ahead to his 90 day non-compete clause being up in a separate post, Joe Gacy took to Twitter to share a personal story from weeks after the Wyatt Sicks made their debut on the June 17, 2024 episode of WWE Raw.

Gacy revealed that, at a time when he was walking around backstage alone and “navigating his status” on the main roster following his call-up from NXT, he spotted a moth backstage, and in that moment he felt the presence of Wyatt.

Gacy wrote:

Just a story for the fans,

True story. In the first few weeks after the debut of the Wyatt Sicks, I was walking around back stage alone. Navigating my new status as an NXT call up. In that moment I glanced over at a curtain and what do I see. A moth…..

I look down and see this moth, brown with spots on its back and big. I looked around and no one was near me.

In that moment I felt Windhams presence with me…….It might sound weird but in that moment I felt like he accepted and supported the journey we were about to embark on. It was very surreal and a moment I will never forget. That moment and every moment after I really felt him there with us. Thank you again.

Gacy’s comments echo his tag team partner Dexter Lumis, who said, in his own parting message following his WWE release on Friday, that he and the rest of the Wyatt Sicks “truly felt” Bray Wyatt’s presence every time they made their entrance together.

The Wyatt Sicks’ Early Promise Ultimately Unfulfilled By WWE

The Wyatt Sicks arrived with much promise, and ultimately WWE failed to deliver on fans expectations for the group.

Early vignettes saw its members, particularly Bo Dallas and Erick Rowan tackle the difficult subject of grief and loss, something rarely explored or used in the development of WWE characters.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see these this subject matter truly fleshed out in any meaningful way, instead WWE kept them in feuds long beyond the point they stopped being interesting and had Lumis and Gacy hold the WWE Tag Team Titles hostage without defending them for months on end.

While WWE failed to do the group justice, its members’ love and appreciation for Bray Wyatt was evident and judging by their social media posts, it was a truly gratifying experience to pay tribute to one of wrestling’s most creative minds.
