JBL Reveals His ‘Only Concern’ About GUNTHER In WWE

WWE Hall of Famer JBL has named “the only thing” that concerns him about the “absolutely awesome” GUNTHER.

Having now retired Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles within the past eight months, GUNTHER has added “The Career Killer” moniker to his WWE resumé – which already included two World Heavyweight Championship reigns and a record-breaking 666 day run as Intercontinental Champion.

Speaking to TMZ Inside The Ring, JBL heaped praise on GUNTHER but named the one concern he has regarding his heel status in the company.

JBL said:

“He’s awesome. Absolutely awesome. Everything about him I think he’s fantastic. Very few guys can carry the heat that he’s got. He can carry it.

“I have been a fan of GUNTHER since he came into the WWE. I didn’t know him before so I probably would have been a fan of him before. But he lost all that weight, he got himself in great shape and he just simply knows the business. He knows how to get heat, he knows how to do interviews I think he’s absolutely fantastic with it.

“The only thing I’d be concerned about, and this is just a little caveat from an old time heel, I was supposed to beat Undertaker in SummerSlam. And Undertaker said, ‘What do you want to do?’ Taker was willing to put me over one, two, three and I said, ‘Am I going to retire the next day?’ And he said ‘What do you mean?’ And I said, ‘If I beat you, I’m no longer a heel. I’ll tell everybody I beat The Undertaker. If I beat you, I’m a badass, I’m not a heel.’

“I had the idea of being choke slammed through a limousine, come out in the neck brace and then tell everybody I kicked The Undertaker’s ass, which everybody knows I didn’t do.

“So I never was one that wanted to win matches. The one thing I’d be concerned about, and you got to understand there’s a couple different kinds of heels here, and both are fantastic.

“You look at a guy like Roman Reigns, he’s headlined more WrestleManias than anybody in history. He’s an attraction heel, he’s not a pure heel, and there’s a difference. You look at the NWO, attraction heels, The Freebirds, attraction heels, DX, attraction heels. There’s a difference in that and a pure heel.

“Now, both can draw money, the equal amount of money it’s just a matter of where you want to be. GUNTHER is probably gonna become more of an attraction heel because he’s beaten guys and he’s really really good and I imagine that’s the direction that he will go.

“You know, I think it’s gonna be hard to keep him a pure heel. But I don’t think it matters, make an attraction. When he walks out everybody stands up, like Cena when he came out. I think GUNTHER can be that guy cause I think GUNTHER is that good.”
