Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Signs With Wrestling Promotion

Many MMA stars have made the jump to professional wrestling in the last few years with the four horsewomen being the most notable. Now, another huge name has signed on the dotted line. Although, it was not WWE who snagged this one.

Former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez has put pen to paper with Mexican promotion AAA as announced at a press conference yesterday. It was also revealed that his first match will take place at the company’s biggest show of the year, TripleMania XXVII. His opponent in that bout is yet to be confirmed.

In English:

“Very excited to participate in TripleMania XXVII and be with all the Mexican fans who have always supported me! Thanks to @LuchaLibreaaa for the great opportunity. Really excited to be part of TipleMania XXVII! #LuchaLibre #Mexico”

He’s even wearing a mask!

With a pro-MMA record of 14-3, Velasquez is definitely one to take seriously between the ropes. He even attended WWE tryouts at the Performance Center last year as a statement and later commented in an interview with MMA Fighting that “the transition was pretty easy. I’m pretty athletic for a big guy.”

It was recently reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Velasquez was likely to be making the jump to professional wrestling this year. I guess now we have our answer.
