Drew McIntyre has confirmed he still “can’t stand” CM Punk despite their feud on WWE TV not resuming since 2024.
The McIntyre vs Punk storyline, which culminated at Bad Blood 2024 in a Hell in a Cell match, was widely regarded as the feud of that year.
They’ve both since gone their separate ways, with McIntyre on WWE SmackDown and Punk on Raw, but there’s still no love lost between them.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre was asked for his thoughts on Punk now that there’s been considerable time since their feud.
He said:
“A piece of crap. Can’t stand him. I watch him every week, and I see he is doing good things with the World Title. Good for you. That’s a good run right there.
“As a fighting champion, I think fighting champions are stupid, because I was one, and why would you defend it all the time? That’s just disrespectful to the title. The opponent should earn it. I did it before, that’s why I can say that stuff.
“But at the same time, he’s nowhere close to what he did with me, and it pains me to admit I’m still chasing the dragon for what I did with him. So opposites attract.”
How Long Will Drew McIntyre Continue Wrestling
In the same interview, former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre commented on how much longer he plans to continue wrestling, saying:
“I mean, I know my wife feels like it’s gonna be a lot shorter than I probably feel it’s going to be, especially with how I feel now and how creatively fulfilled I feel these days.
“But as long as I’m happy, as long as she’s happy, and as long as the fans are happy with what I’m doing, I don’t see any reason to slow down anytime soon, especially when I see guys getting up there in age right now and moving as well as they’re moving right now, because we’ve just moved so far forward with athletes.
“Look at LeBron James or Ronaldo, for example, the same age as me, and they’re still at the top of their game.”
WWE Should Come Back Around To Drew McIntyre Vs. CM Punk
While their score was settled in 2024, WWE should likely come back around to doing another Drew McIntyre vs CM Punk match in the future.
The storyline was received so well that, if revisited, there would be immediate goodwill with the fans, and a lot of anticipation and hype about another match between the two.
Some good things are best left untouched, but this is an example where WWE should pick things back up between McIntyre and Punk at some point in the future.
The revisited rivalry could be used as a vehicle to introduce or elevate potential future stars as well, if one or both of them brings in a protege along the way.
