Cody Rhodes appeared on tonight’s March 7 episode of WWE SmackDown to address John Cena, The Rock and Travis Scott after Elimination Chamber.
Rhodes was sombre making his entrance, without the usual posing and “WOAHHH-ing” as he sported a very clearly injured eye, which had been caused by a blow from Scott.
Before Rhodes began, there were loud “Cena sucks” chants from the crowd.
He said that he couldn’t bring himself to explain to his daughter what actually happened, so he told her a “Cody lie” and said he ran into a wall – which he then said is what happened in a metaphorical sense.
Rhodes went on to reveal what John Cena told him in the ring at WWE WrestleMania 40 after Rhodes’ championship win, saying Cena told Rhodes: “It gets heavier every day.”
He then said even though Cena might have thought his successor had to look and be the same as him, that’s not the case, as Rhodes has proven.
He finished the promo by calling back to one of Cena’s own catchphrases: “John Cena, clearly you want some – come and get some”.
Rhodes’ comments were as follows;
“You can watch WrestleMania 40 back, you can turn the audio up. My old friend John Cena celebrating in the ring with my friends and family. He looked at me, he pointed at the title, and I’ll never forget what he said. He said ‘it gets heavier everyday’.
“Well, John here I am holding this championship, it is not heavy enough. Here I am holding this championship as I have for the last 300 and something days.
“John I know that you’re watching. I know you think that your successor had to look like you, talk like you, had to be like you, had to live like you, well the next one doesn’t look like the last one John, and you are convinced that you are the last of your kind, you are not! I am standing right here, I am holding this above my head as if it weighs nothing, and at WrestleMania 41 I will do the same!
“John Cena, clearly you want some, come and get some!”

“There is no justification for you John Cena!”
Whatever excuse or reason @JohnCena may have, @CodyRhodes doesn’t want to hear it! 😤 #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/c1lOmUsTT7
