A major update on Chris Jericho’s AEW status and potential WWE return amid rumours of a return next month.
For a number of months, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the status of Chris Jericho in AEW, as he has not appeared on television since May.
It had been reported that Jericho’s contract with AEW was set to expire at the end of the year, with those in WWE reportedly expecting Jericho to make his return to WWE, with the 2026 Royal Rumble being cited as a potential date for his return.
In an update from Jon Alba of Sports Illustrated, it had been reported that Jericho’s contract with AEW is set to expire on December 31, and that WWE has discussed potentially debuting Jericho on the January 5 episode of Raw in Brooklyn as opposed to holding him off for the Royal Rumble in Riyadh.
Today, Sports Illustrated noted that it has been independently confirmed to them by higher ups in AEW that they are under the impression that Jericho is done with AEW, and is set to return to WWE.
Jericho was one of the first AEW signings announced at the company’s inception in January 2019, with him becoming the first-ever AEW World Champion at All Out in 2019.
We will provide any updates on Jericho’s status as they become available.
