Charlotte Flair Addresses Not Being In Major Singles Title Match At WWE WrestleMania 42, ‘It Would Be Odd Not To Be In Something With Lexi’

Charlotte Flair on WWE SmackDown

Charlotte Flair has addressed not being booked in a major main event level championship match at WWE WrestleMania 42.

In all of Charlotte Flair’s eight WrestleMania appearances throughout her WWE career, “The Queen” has competed for, or defended a major singles championship, with last year’s “Show of Shows” seeing her unsuccessfully challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship.

This year however, that streak will be broken, as Flair instead turns her attention to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, as Flair and her tag team partner Alexa Bliss take on The Bella Twins, Lyra Valkyria & Bayley and the reigning title holders The Irresistible Forces in a four-way.

During an interview with Busted Open, Dave LaGreca asked Charlotte if it feels weird to her to not be involved in a match for a top singles title, to which she responded:

“I think given the year and coming off last year’s WrestleMania, it would be odd not to be in something with Lexi (Alexa Bliss), whether beside her or against her. Does it feel weird to me not being (in a main event match?) the way I look at it is whether it’s my entrance, whether I’m given five minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, people are still going to walk away from WrestleMania going, ‘That’s why she’s Charlotte Flair.’ And that’s how I look at it…

“Just because I’m in a tag doesn’t mean the edge, the competitiveness and whatever I have, trust me that is all there. I’m just going to do the best with everything (I’m given).”

Charlotte Flair Says WWE Women’s Tag Title Win Felt Like “Holding Up A World Title”

Discussing her transition into the tag team division in WWE, Charlotte Flair reflected on her and Alexa Bliss’ WWE Women’s Tag Title win at SummerSlam 2025, saying the moment felt on par with winning a world championship.

Flair said:

“When I won the tag titles with Lexi in August, SummerSlam, MetLife again, it really did feel like I was holding up a world title. Given the scenario last year when I came back, losing at WrestleMania last year and then, out of nowhere, no one had that on their bingo card. I don’t know what I would have been doing had the opportunity not come up.

“So, I do take, the match for the tag titles very serious because I do feel like what me and Lexi have been able to create together has made a difference.”

Flair then heaped praise on WWE’s women’s tag team division, saying that it’s never been as stacked as it’s been recently:

“When Lexi and I were going to Raw and facing Bayley and Lyra or IYO and Rhea, there’s been some incredible women revolving around the tag titles…

“There’s always been competition but (not) that stacked of a tag team division that there is now and that says a lot.”

A Welcome Break From The World Title Picture For Charlotte Flair

This time last year Charlotte Flair was the reigning Women’s Royal Rumble Match winner and heading into a championship match with Tiffany Stratton, a booking decision that a great number of fans pushed back against at the time.

Flair’s return to the main event scene, immediately after sitting out the entirety of 2024 due to a serious knew injury was not welcomed by fans, and despite WWE efforts to portray Flair as a babyface, she was quickly turned heel.

Flair and Stratton’s personal feud ultimately led to the 14-time world champion falling to her younger opponent, and would be the last time fans saw Flair compete for one of WWE’s top women’s titles.

Afterwards Flair transitioned into an odd couple tag team with Alexa Bliss, a decision that proved to be the absolute best thing for her character, as fans warmed up to “The Queen” again, just months after showering her with boos.

Flair has shown a more human and light-hearted side to her character, and it’s evident that fans are welcoming this change, as well as seeing her compete for something other than world championship number 15.
