Nikki & Brie Bella in WWE. They are the Bella Twins

Nattie has revealed The Bella Twins turned down their own private locker room following their WWE reunion earlier this year.

Brie Bella made her much-anticipated return at this year’s Royal Rumble, going on to reunite with her twin sister, setting their sights on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

With Nikki & Brie Bella now back in the WWE locker room together, Nattie has reflected on having them back together and their presence in the backstage environment during an interview with the Toronto Sun, saying:

“It is so great to have them back. I was in New York City with them this past week, and it was so nice. When we’re together, it’s like we’re back in FCW where we started…

“They’re two of my closest friends, not just in wrestling but in life. We’re like sisters, we have that really strong soul connection, and we can just look at each other and know what we’re thinking.

“I love the girls so much. The locker room loves having them. I’ve said this before; sometimes it’s worth saying again. Sometimes when people come back, or they’re bigger celebrities, the twins are mainstream, they’re mainstream celebrities. They were on the cover of PEOPLE magazine, Nikki was on Traitors, they have a mainstream appeal. They do Good Morning America. They never forget where they came from.”

Further covering their humility, Nattie said that Nikki and Brie refused to take up WWE’s offer of a private locker room, instead opting to change with the rest of the female talent:

“It’s funny because WWE, whenever they’re back, talent relations always says, ‘Ok, do you girls want your own locker room?’ And they’re always like, ‘No, we want to change with the girls.’ And so the girls in our locker room love having the twins back. They just fit in with us so well, it’s like they never missed a beat.”

The Locker Room As A Backstage Focal Point

Anyone with a passing interest of what goes on behind the scenes in professional wrestling is no doubt familiar with the locker room and what that entails.

Beyond a place to leave your bags and get changed, it’s a place where etiquette plays a substantial role, with stories of many stars who did the wrong thing at the wrong moment and were chastised for their behavior.

Then, there’s the role of the locker room leader, typically occupied by a respected veteran, serving as an interface between the stars and management, as well as maintaining discipline and the largely unspoken rules. It’s a role that has a degree of authority, without an official title, with respect at the heart of the recognition.

While some stars may have their own space backstage, being part of the locker room is no doubt an ideal way to get to know each other better, to mitigate issues before they get out of hand, and, as with any workplace and shared spaces, create an environment of cohesion.
