An update has emerged on a nixed pitch for former WWE Champion AJ Styles to appear for TNA Wrestling, amid speculation about a potential crossover appearance.
Ahead of his stints with WWE and NJPW, AJ Styles established himself as a top star in TNA Wrestling over the course of his 12 year stint with the company.
With WWE recently establishing a working relationship between NXT and TNA, rumors have been swirling about AJ Styles potentially returning to his former home in a crossover appearance.
Per Fightful Select, AJ Styles, as well as Monty Brown, were considered for this year’s TNA Hall of Fame.
The report noted that the possibility of AJ Styles being in the this year’s class was “broached with WWE”, who chose to pass on the opportunity. While the exact reason for WWE turning down the opportunity is unclear, some within TNA believe it’s down to Styles’ injury or current WWE storyline.
It was noted in the report that there were hopes that Styles would be open to wrestling for TNA, but it’s unclear if this has been discussed.
Styles suffered a legitimate foot injury during his return to the ring on the October 4 SmackDown episode, with his match against Carmelo Hayes being called off.
