AEW World Champion MJF has been pulled from an independent show this week after suffering an injury.
Keeping up his busy run of indie bookings as AEW World Champion, MJF was set to go one-on-one with Bobby Orlando at Beyond Wrestling’s event in Cranston, Rhode Island on Friday, June 5.
Ahead of the match, MJF told Justin Barrasso of Undisputed that it would be his last indie date for an “extraordinarily long time,” however, unfortunately for the fans looking forward to seeing the AEW World Champion in action, Beyond Wrestling has announced that MJF will be unable to compete tomorrow night.
Taking to Twitter, Beyond Wrestling confirmed that MJF hyperextended his knee during the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite, and is not medically cleared to wrestle or travel as a result.
Thankfully, Beyond Wrestling did confirm that MJF still intends to wrestle for the promotion once he’s medically able to.
The announcement reads:
Unfortunately @The_MJF hyperextended his knee during his match last night & is not medically cleared to travel or compete.
He will not be in Cranston tomorrow night but assured me he will wrestle for Beyond Wrestling as soon as his schedule allows.
We wish him a speedy recovery.
MJF began his third AEW World Title reign with a successful defense against RUSH on last night’s Dynamite – forcing “El Toro Blanco” to pass out with a Crossface submission.
While Mark Briscoe is waiting in the wings for his own shot at MJF’s crown, it’s unclear how the champion’s injury will impact AEW’s plans at this time.
AEW’s next major pay-per-view is the fifth annual Forbidden Door event on Sunday, June 28, and as of right now there has been no confirmation regarding MJF’s plans for the show.
We will provide updates on MJF’s injury and AEW’s plans heading into Forbidden Door as they become available.
We wish MJF a speedy and safe recovery.
All Signs Point To Will Ospreay Getting His All In London Moment
Ever since Will Ospreay signed with AEW in November 2023, fans eyed All In as the perfect stage for his eventual crowning moment.
While All In was held in Texas last year, this year it returns to Ospreay’s backyard in London, and all the stars seem to be aligning for “The Aerial Assassin” to win his first AEW World Title at the event.
The main event of last night’s AEW Dynamite saw Ospreay knock off former United Empire teammate Mark Davis to book his spot in the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final at Forbidden Door – where he will take on either Swerve Strickland or Brody King.
Providing MJF’s injury is not too severe, then we could also be seeing a rematch from 2024’s All In London event, where Ospreay defeated the 30-year-old for the AEW International Championship, only this time their bout will be for the company’s biggest prize.
