All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has kicked off the new year with two new trademark applications relating to a familiar tournament.
With AEW Worlds End now in the history books, a new Continental Classic winner was revealed in the form of Jon Moxley, with his victory over fellow finalist Kazuchika Okada on December 27.
It seems likely that the Continental Classic will return later this year, thanks to a recent filing with the USPTO.
AEW filed a new trademark application for the term ‘CONTINENTAL CLASSIC’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on January 2, with a new application for the term ‘C2’ also being submitted.
Under US Serial Number 99575310, the term ‘CONTINENTAL CLASSIC’ covers the Goods and Services category of:
Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services in the nature of live professional wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of professional wrestling programs and events;
Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of professional wrestling
The application for the term ‘C2’ is under US Serial Number 99575312, and is covered by the same Goods and Services category.
C2 is the shortened name given to the Continental Classic tournament, which had its inaugural year back in 2023 and saw Eddie Kingston defeat Jon Moxley to claim victory in at Worlds End in that year.
Kingston would become the inaugural AEW Continental Champion at Worlds End in December 2023.
The 2025 Continental Classic final saw the Continental Championship and International Championship de-unified, with Moxley holding the former and Okada the latter.
