An AEW star has opened up on how they adapted their career in the company following their partner’s departure and return to WWE.
Brody King made his AEW debut in January 2022, where he aligned with Malakai Black on AEW television, forming the House of Black group.
The group would later add Buddy Matthews and Julia Hart to the mix, and would end in January 2025, with Black leaving AEW shortly after to return to WWE.
How Brody King Adapted Following House Of Black Break Up
Brody, Buddy and Julia remained together as the Hounds of Hell following Black’s departure, though the group’s run would be cut short after an injury to Buddy Matthews.
Brody would later go on to form the Brodido team with Bandido, with the pair winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship at Forbidden Door in London.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo, Brody opened up on how he adapted following the group’s break up.
He said:
“I feel like I’ve always been very adaptable in wrestling, I’ve been in other groups that have kind of fallen apart. I always have an idea of what to do next.
“I don’t think it’s a complete shift in a different direction but I feel like I’m able to adapt with what I have and use certain pieces of what was given to me with the House of Black and use that going forward with the Hounds of Hell, then going into what we’re doing with Brodido and now what I’m doing as a singles wrestler.
“I feel like it’s all very seamless, I didn’t have to take any time off, I didn’t have to think about what was next. At the core I’ve always just been Brody King and what you see is what you get, it’s just authenticity always cuts through.
“House of Black was a huge stepping stone, and it gave me the credibility on this kind of platform to be with someone like Malakai, or Aleister, and be with Buddy and really show what I had to offer to the wider audience that might not have known me from Ring of Honor or New Japan.
“I feel like now I didn’t lose any of those fans, and they’ve only grew with the other ones.”

Will Brody King Become AEW World Champion?
Over the past year, Brody King has continued to rise the ranks in AEW, including recently challenging MJF for the AEW World Championship at Grand Slam Australia.
King’s rise in fan support has come both due to his great body of work on AEW television, as well as various outside factors that catapulted him into national news headlines.
With heavy support behind Brody, AEW and Tony Khan should eventually make the call to crown Brody as the AEW World Champion in what would be a great moment.
