Former AEW star Marko Stunt is set for an in-ring return, with a multi-fight deal signed with PRODUCE, a promotion based in New York.
Having been released from his AEW contract in June 2022, Stunt would return to the independent scene before announcing his retirement in November 2024.
A scheduled appearance in Game Changer Wrestling would see Stunt confirm that he is retired, revealing that he wasn’t cleared to compete at the event in March of this year, only to be attacked by KJ Orso (formerly Fuego Del Sol).
It appears the retirement is now at an end, with Jack Perry making a return to GCW on April 4 ahead of a tag team match with his Jurassic Express partner at Spring Break over WrestleMania 42 week.
The match isn’t a one-off, either, with Stunt being confirmed as being under a new deal with PRODUCE, and the promotion tweeting:
“Marko Stunt has come to terms with PRODUCE on a multi-fight deal.
“On June 29th in Brooklyn, NY, he will compete on our debut show PRODUCE: Volume 1 – The Octopus at Pioneer Works.
“New York has found you again, Marko.”
Stunt last competed on the July 6, 2024, episode of AEW Collision, losing to Jack Perry in a TNT Championship match.
GCW Spring Break will see Perry and Stunt team up to take on KJ Orso and Stackhouse on April 17 at Horseshoe Las Vegas, marking the first time since April 2021 that they’ve been a team.
Retirement Is Rarely The End
While generations of workers look forward to the day that they can retire, the same often isn’t true in the wrestling world.
Stars of all ages can see their careers brought to an end, be it through their own choice, injury or other means, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t step foot into the wrestling ring again.
Fans will no doubt remember the many retirements of legends such as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Sting and Shawn Michaels, all of whom would come back, sometimes for multiple runs, despite their in-ring careers coming to an end, occasionally in matches billed as “final”.
For a name such as Stunt, at the age of just 29 years old, a retirement was always likely to be a challenge, with many potential opportunities still in his future and the “itch” to step back in the ring and do what he enjoys still very much present.
Returning to the ring alongside Jack Perry, previously Jungle Boy in AEW and the current National Champion, is sure to be an even bigger reminder as to why Stunt does what he does and just what he’s been missing during his absence.
