Worlds Collide has served as a key event in the calendar for WWE and AAA since the former company’s acquisition of the latter promotion in 2025.
With previous editions of Worlds Collide featuring showdowns between NXT and NXT UK stars, the live event brand has since been repurposed, with these events now being crossover opportunities for main roster, NXT and AAA stars.
The next Worlds Collide event will be a significant one, with the December 15 special to be themed around Avengers Doomsday as part of WWE’s extended partnership with the Walt Disney Company.
This will be the fourth Worlds Collide event since its revival, with three specials taking place since June 2025.
Here are the stories behind the three matches which headlined the three previous WWE AAA Worlds Collide specials.
June 2025 – El Hijo del Vikingo vs Chad Gable – AAA Mega Championship
The first Worlds Collide event of the rebooted series took place on June 7, 2025, the same day as the Money in the Bank premium live event.
Chad Gable pulled double duty on this day, first challenging for El Hijo del Vikingo’s AAA Mega Title.
The champion was ultimately victorious in this bout, defeating Chad Gable after 22 minutes of action to retain the AAA brand’s top prize.
Gable went on to compete in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, under his Original El Grande Americano moniker.
September 2025 – El Hijo del Vikingo vs Dominik Mysterio – AAA Mega Championship
El Hijo del Vikingo also defended the AAA Mega Championship at the second post-reboot iteration of Worlds Collide, against Dominik Mysterio.
He was less successful on this occasion, with the then-Intercontinental Champion defeating the luchador in 18 minutes to reach the top of the AAA mountain.
It was a case of “second time lucky” for Dominik, who had unsuccessfully challenged for the gold in a four-way match at Triplemanía 33, losing following interference from AJ Styles.
Following the match, Dominik made his father, Rey Mysterio, put the AAA belt around his waist.
September 2026 – CM Punk, El Grande Americano & Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh & Omos
The most recent Worlds Collide event aired on September 30, having controversially been taped on September 26, the same night as AEW All Out.
Rather than concluding with a title match, this special ended with a special six-man tag bout, with CM Punk joining forces with Rey Mysterio and El Grande Americano to defeat Dominik Mysterio, Omos & JD McDonagh.
CM Punk notably brought back his old theme “This Fire Burns” for his entrance ahead of the bout, giving a nod to his masked Straight Edge Society era.
Post-match, Oba Femi made an appearance, having a brief face-off with Omos which fuelled speculation about a future clash of titans.
