This week saw Rey Mysterio announce that WWE are bringing the traditional five vs. five elimination tag team match back to this year’s Survivor Series in Houston on November 28.

Rather than Raw vs. SmackDown, we will be seeing Team USA take on Team Mexico, and now WWE has confirmed that it will be Mysterio himself who will be leading Team Mexico in three weeks time.

Taking to Instagram, Rey shared an official WWE graphics which stated: “Rey Mysterio to lead Team Mexico at WWE Survivor Series.”

Along with the picture, Mysterio also wrote:

You all heard the big announcement this morning….
you gota be there!
🇺🇸 Vs 🇲🇽
See you in H Town

We don’t yet know who will be Mysterio’s Team USA counterpart, nor who else will be competing on either side of the five vs. five match.

Until we get confirmation of the full line-ups, it’s worth identifying four names who very well might stand alongside Mysterio on Team Mexico on November 28, as there are several interesting options:

Honorable mention:El Grande Americano

Now, El Grande Americano is about as patriotic a Mexican as it gets for someone that isn’t actually from the country, and he is also the reigning AAA Mega Champion, so there is every chance that Rey Mysterio picks him to fight for Team Mexico.

It just depends how authentic WWE want to be with their selections. They didn’t pick Americano to take part in the luchador World Heavyweight Title number one contender’s tournament a few months back, so perhaps they will omit him from this match as well.

Dominik Mysterio

Another potentially contentious inclusion would be “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio. While he very much needs to be involved in a high profile spot at Survivor Series given how poorly he’s been booked in recent months, the Team Mexico leader his also his “dead beat dad” who he’s not too fond of.

There’s a chance that Rey sees the bigger picture and decides Team Mexico could benefit from having Dom on board, but there’s also a good chance he’s omitted, like he was from the aforementioned luchador World Title tournament.

Dragon Lee

With Rey Mysterio having a well established fondness for Dragon Lee dating back to Lee’s time in NXT, it’s a no brainer for Rey to name the former World Tag Team Champion in his Team Mexico line-up.

Lee would also be an excellent choice for that “sole survivor” spot if the match proceeds that way, as he’s a perfect underdog competitor that could get fans invested if he was fighting against overwhelming odds.

Rey Fenix

In comparison to his brother Penta, Rey Fenix’s first year in WWE was far from sunshine and rainbows. There were times when fans questioned whether he was suited to WWE, or whether he would have been better off remaining in All Elite Wrestling.

Well, it’s safe to say that opinion is not heard as often anymore, as Fenix’s WWE career has completely turned around since he became the AAA Crusiserweight Champion back in May. Fenix has 14 title defenses to his name in less than six months, and is frequently stealing almost every show he wrestles on. With all his hard work and excellent performances throughout the second half of the year, Fenix deserves to be spotlighted on a PLE stage.

Penta

15 years on from Rey Mysterio’s last world title reign, WWE will soon have themselves a luchador world champion once again if Penta can successfully cash-in his Money in the Bank contract.

That very well might happen before we get to Survivor Series, but providing Penta doesn’t have a match on the card, he absolutely must be selected to represent Team Mexico given all of the momentum he has right now.
